Sherman Chamber Ensemble Presents
Celtic Pub Night
March 12th
Warm up your winter at a Celtic Pub Night presented by the Sherman Chamber Ensemble at the Jewish community Center in Sherman on Friday, March 12th. The fun starts at 8:00 PM and will feature music, libations and refreshments inspired by the British Isles. Admission is $30 per person and includes beer, wine and munchies, along with Single Malt Whiskey tasting and other treats.
“People enjoy SCE’s end-of-summer Live at the Lake coffeehouse so much, we thought we would like to bring a little of that fun to the dark days of winter,” says Pub Night event chair Catharine Cooke. “Pretty much everyone we know (especially the local British population) says how much they would love to have a local pub (not a ‘bar’) to go to for a quiet drink and good music, so we thought - Why not? We have the best musicians available to us right here in Sherman, thanks to the Chamber Ensemble, and with imagination (and some good Single Malts) we can create a pub atmosphere.”
SCE Artistic Director Eliot Bailen has assembled a talented group of entertainers, once again proving the extraordinary diversity of the group’s musical abilities. “We are pleased to have Paul Woodiel return to Sherman for Pub Night,” comments Bailen. “He plays frequently at our classical concerts, is a mainstay of our bluegrass jamborees and has become a regular part of our season-opening picnic events as well. Music of the British Isles is one of his specialties, so we are in for a real treat.” Joining Paul on fiddle and Eliot on cello will be Chris Layer, playing flute and bagpipes. Special guest Andrew Weir will contribute readings of the poetry of Robert Burns.
Reservations are recommended and may be made by contacting SCE at 860-355-5930 or info@shermanchamberensemble.org. Cash, checks and Visa/MasterCard will be accepted at the door.
